International Fireproof Technology Inc. (IFTI) is pleased to announce a substantial reduction in the application rate of DC315, our premier intumescent coating, required to meet alternative thermal barrier requirements. This development translates to significant cost savings and operational efficiencies for contractors utilizing spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation.

Enhanced Yield and Cost Efficiency

Through rigorous testing and evaluation, DC315 now offers an impressive yield of 115 square feet per gallon at 14 mils wet film thickness (WFT) over SPF. This enhancement results in a cost reduction ranging from 25% to 44% for contractors, allowing for more economical project execution. The updated evaluation report encompasses 50 blends of SPF from every major manufacturer, all tested and approved at the new application rate. We anticipate adding 12 to 15 more tests by the end of April to further validate these findings.

Additional Benefits of the Reduced Application Rate for DC315

Beyond direct material cost savings, the improved application rate of DC315 offers several ancillary benefits:

  • Reduced Labor: The ability to apply DC315 in a single coat at 14 mils WFT, including on ceilings and walls, simplifies the process and can reduce labor requirements by up to 50%. This efficiency ensures code compliance without issues such as sagging, bagging, or dripping.
  • Lower Freight Costs: With less coating needed per project, transportation costs decrease accordingly, contributing to overall budget reductions.
  • Decreased Inventory Investment: DC315 is a versatile product tested to meet both ignition and thermal barrier code compliance, covering over 100 tested and approved SPF blends from all major manufacturers. This versatility allows contractors to streamline inventory, reducing the need for multiple products.

Comprehensive Code Compliance

DC315’s compliance is documented in evaluation reports from organizations such as IAPMO, Intertek, and ICC-ES, listing over 100 fully tested and compliant assemblies. This comprehensive documentation eliminates guesswork, providing contractors with clear guidelines for code compliance. For detailed information, please refer to our updated code compliance report ER-499.

About DC315

DC315 is a water-based, single-component intumescent coating designed to meet building code requirements for fire protection of SPF insulation. It has undergone extensive testing and evaluation in the United States by UL and ICC-ES, and in Canada by ULC and CCMC. DC315 complies with AC456 and satisfies the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and various other national and international building codes.

Key Features of DC315:

  • Extensive Testing: DC315 has undergone more certified full-scale alternative thermal and ignition barrier tests over SPF than any other product globally.
  • Quality Assurance: Our manufacturing facilities are third-party inspected for quality control, ensuring consistent product performance.
  • Long-Term Performance: Testing indicates that DC315’s fire-resistant properties are not compromised after 50 years, offering long-term reliability.
  • Environmental Compliance: DC315 meets stringent EPA VOC and AQMD air emission requirements and qualifies as a low-emitting material under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools rating system.
  • Application Efficiency: The coating allows for single-coat coverage up to 24 mils WFT on ceilings and walls, reducing labor costs and increasing profitability.
